Tokyo.点 x Ian Lynam

The piece I am working on is about modularity and periphery: two things that I think embody the essence of Tokyo. It is very much a defined place- both by borders and by the combination of plural parts. The visual exploration I am working on is about that meeting.

Through a dynamic mix of history, culture, race and technology, Tokyo creates one unique culture. The city feels as if a brand new planet is suddenly born.

作品のコンセプト：
「個」が持つ「欲望」「野望」「希望」様々な思いが、東京にいると溢れ出やすくなる気がします。人々が近いので伝染します。一体化、解散、一体化と高速変化する東京を楽しく表現した作品を制作中。
栄養素について：
東京を一つの植物に考え、栄養素の仕組み、その栄養素を吸って変化を続ける東京の魅力的なノリについて考えて描きました。地方から車での帰り、首都高にのり、東京についた時、ビル群が妖怪に見えた時があります。その時の雰囲気を描きたいと思っております。

I feel that when you’re in Tokyo, individuals’ feelings such as “desire”, “ambitions”, “hopes” overflow easily. They are contagious because people are so close to each other. I am currently working on an artwork that depicts the rapidly changing Tokyo that unifies, breakup, unifies again rapidly, in a fun way.

東京の伝統でもある相撲をモチーフにマワシのVISUALを制作しています。僕らは東京を中心に活動しているので、東京地図を落とし込み拠点を印しています。文字やグラフィックにも 点、DOT感を意識したもので構成していきます。

I am working on visuals with motifs from the Japanese tradition “sumo,” utilizing “mawashi” (loin cloth of sumo wrestlers). Since our activities are mostly in Tokyo, we marked our bases on the map of Tokyo. We also used “ten/dots” in our words and graphics.
