Where to begin… for starters Jemapur put on an awesome performance full of intricate noise, stomach-pounding bass, and body moving rhythm. It is interesting to see how Jemapur performs live because unlike his album he remixes, cuts, shuffles, deforms, and recomposes everything into a new experience. At times you’ll notice and say to yourself, “oh I know this track” while at the same time hearing completely new sounds that are being layered upon it. Furthermore, he composes, layers, and remixes live rather than playing back something he produced before.
We also had WOOG from W+K TOKYO LAB on the cut spinning his New Millenia Romantics 80’s/90’s/2001 Dance tracks at the start of the evening. Great music. Makes me want to raid your iTunes library Gino.
The W+K Tokyo Lab VJ team, composed of Genki Ito, Shane Lester, and Marek Okon, supported Jemapur during his performance by throwing down some mad visuals on the fly across 4 x floor-to-ceiling HD projections. The visuals themselves were just as vibrant and intricate as Jemapur’s sonic sculptures, even at times overwhelming and mesmerizing. After Jemapur’s set we had pulsating patterns flying around in our heads for a few hours… felt like we just came out of a trance party.
