W+K Tokyo Lab introduces its 4th artist, the human beat boxer Afra. From the East Coast Old School to the Far East, Afra is recognized as one of today’s most talented and respected human beatboxers. His fat beats and fine detail, combined with his startlingly accurate sound reproduction, variation and flow, make Afra one of the most popular young hip-hop talents in the world. After graduating from high school in 1996, Afra left his native Japan for New York City. After winning the 2002 Brooklyn Beatbox Battle, Afra featured alongside beatboxing legends, Rhazel, Biz Markie and Doug E Fresh in the 2002 award-winning documentary film, Breath Control. Afra was the only Asian featured in the film.
Afra’s new release is titled Digital Breath, reflecting this album’s approach of filtering Afra’s raw beatboxing through digital production techniques applied by Scott Herren, aka Prefuse 73. The CD includes 8 music tracks, and the DVD features the breathtaking Digital Breath music video produced by W+K Tokyo Lab in Bangkok, a live video edited from one of Afra’s best performances in Tokyo, a behind-the-scenes documentary about Afra, and more.
